Manchester Gold Scheme (BBC/University of Manchester) 10/11/2006-9/06/2007
• Took part in mentoring scheme for students with disabilities, providing the opportunity to be mentored by a disabled employee in some of the world’s best-known organisations.
• Mentored by Libby Cross, TV and Radio producer and presenter for the BBC. This gave insight into working with a disability within a highly competitive industry.
ITV Granada 7/07/2006 – 21/07/2006
• Took part in a 5 day work placement at Granda Reports, after sending a speculative CV.
• Observed the team editing regional programmes, collating vast amounts of information into a 30-minute programme and dealing with constantly-changing news stories.
• Shadowed Granada Reports presenters, gaining insight into production, research and management.

• This was a one day insight day on how to get involved within the media.

POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND LEADERSHIP
Black Student Representative for the National Union of Students (NUS) February 2008-Present
• Elected as the Black Student’s Representative for the Disabled Committee for the NUS.
• Conducting research into students’ needs and current policy, which I then put across in the form of concise and persuasive written reports and presentations.
• Representing the views of black students to the NUS and publicising the work of the NUS to black students.
• Providing training and expert advice to students and student unions on issues related to disability and race within universities
• This role utilises and develops skills in planning and organising, team-working, empowering and inspiring others, and communication and diplomacy.
Founder and Chairwoman of ABLED Society, University of Manchester Sept 2006- Present
• Created the first society at the University of Manchester dedicated to disability issues - incorporating welfare advice, campaigning for equal opportunities and organising social events.
• Responsible for recruiting over 200 active members to date.
• Recruiting and training committee members e.g. in managing relationships with members and guest speakers.
• Providing training for student-run organisations such as Nightline (a confidential listening and information service run for students by students). I have voluntarily trained over 100 Nightliners on disability-related issues and counselling.
• Running a Freshers Week stand and planning publicity for the society, including planning shifts and providing training for those manning the stall.

• Due to my disability I have employed and managed my own Personal Assistants from a young age.
• Recruiting employees, managing their pay and ongoing training.
• This role utilises my skills in organisation, budgeting, building and maintaining successful relationships with a people from a wide range of backgrounds; diplomacy; conflict management; attention to detail (e.g. checking that correct training has been provided, verifying insurance) and motivating others.
Being part of a documentary or something alike would make me push my limits so that my versatile skills could be tested! that's great! :D
